ROGUE COLOR KG TRAINING 2.0 PLATES

These quality color-coded bumpers are an IWF standard 450mm in diameter, with a narrow width that allows for more weight to be loaded on the bar. A 50.4mm collar opening and steel disc insert keep the plates firmly in place even during intense, high-rep training, and a Shore A durometer of 86 promises a consistent dead bounce to meet the demands of the serious Olympic lifter.

The color coding of the KG Training Plates makes them easy to identify at a glance, helping athletes, trainers, and coaches run more efficient workouts. Red = 25KG, Blue = 20KG, Yellow = 15KG, and Green = 10KG. For version 2.0, we’ve also revamped the plates with new artwork and a gloss-matte-gloss finish. Use the column on the right to choose the plate pair or set that best meets your needs.

On Saturday 27th May eleven of the Koncept crew made their way down to the 5km and 12km extreme obstacle course race near Lands End, Cornwall. Penny Sparham took 1st place in the 5km 10.30am heat, running most of the race bare foot as the waist high mud consumed her trainers in the first kilometer of the race. She remained focused and carried on through with grit and determination to complete the 5km run in good time. Penny’s priority was to refuel her muscles ready to start training for the next extreme obstacle run later in the year.

Volodymyr Desyatov took 1st place in the 12km 10.30am heat with Charlie Wilde taking a strong second place. Volodymyr left the starting block like a Cheetah spotting breakfast, clearing most obstacles in record time to return and finish his warm coffee.

If you have any interest in taking part in the next extreme obstacle course later in the year message Mark Rowlett on Facebook or on 07725029299

Whoo hoo!

A little late xmas gift to ourselves. Koncept Academy have just taken delivery of a brand spanking new Watson safety squat bar.

I’ve added Watsons own description below if you want a read of you can click a link to their website at the bottom.

Regardless, I have tested over a dozen safety squat bars last yr,and after having a play with this one at BodyPower we knew this was the bar to get. It’s a bit more expensive but comes with the cambered bar and superior padding.

From Watson website:

“The Watson Safety Squat Bar (also known as the Hatfield Bar) allows you to perform all types of squat movements in much more comfort than with a traditional straight bar.

Handles at the front of the bar reduce shoulder strain and the design of the Safety Squat Bar allows you to let go completely of the bar and it will stay securely positioned with the load spread comfortably over the 3 pads.

Loads of our customers have told us how squatting with the Watson Safety Squat Bar while gently holding onto the uprights of a Power Rack allowed them to train way beyond their usual limits and with a lot more comfort.

The Watson Safety Squat Bar is constructed from 30mm solid high-tensile steel and will fit an Olympic Power Rack.

Our bar will handle over 400 Kg and is great for squats, good mornings, lunges and loads more!

Works really well for performing standing calf raises from a Calf Raise Block – the hands are free to hold onto something for balance.

New Year New Club

As of 1st January 2016 Koncept Gym LTD has fundamentally changed and is now operating as a non-for profit organisation under the title Koncept Academy CIC

Whaaaat?

A CIC stands for Community Interest Company. We are now an organisation run solely for the benefit of the community rather than the profits of the shareholders. This means any money earnt has to be re-invested back into the club or local community. Essentially we now operate like a charity, and it may well be we move to charity status down the line.

“What does this mean for me?”

1. Come wind, rain or shine Newquay will have a sustainable martial arts gym and multi-sport strength & conditioning facility that cuts through the non-sense, delivering quality tuition to all levels, all ages and all abilities.

2. We will access the most effective, efficient and up to date kit and equipment, to present a facility in Cornwall comparable to the most high spec gyms usually reserved for cities.
3. You can be confident that your club is just that. A Club. This is not a business lining anyone’s pockets or a County Council White elephant project. This club is the passion and outpouring of decade’s worth of experience.

4. We will be running programs to help under privileged into sport as well as creating sporting programs to assist in other areas of life. We have worked with a number of charities previously where our sport has helped young, depressed and metal ill individuals climb and raise the quality of their lives.
5. There will be a focus on a broader range of accessibility. This year we have extended our Free Creche to 5 days a week. We will be implementing parent and child classes, more kids classes and much more.
6. Sporting excellence. We still have an exemplary competition record. Our elite team of coaches will be continuing their impressive work in MMA, kickboxing, boxing, jiu Jitsu and grappling competitions, with some huge announcements and guaranteed titles heading to Newquay !
7. Working with other sports and martial arts clubs. We have already given space to North Shore Jiu Jitsu who have complemented our MMA program immensely. There is now an additional outlet for competition via Gi competitions. We also have Newquay ABA head coach teaching our boxing program, and we are working on resurrecting the boxing club in its entirety. Boxing fans Watch this space!

We are keen to hear from other sports clubs who want to co-operate and pool resources and knowledge. Our strength & conditioning programs developed for fighters translate well to rugby, surfing, American football, net ball and much much more.
8. Community. As we grow we are asking for your help. We would like to hear from anyone who can offer part time coaching or voluntary time in helping the club and facility grow.
9. Grants. As a non-for profit we will be applying to Sport England and other organisations for funding to help realise our dream of providing Newquay with a best in class facility. If you have any experience in grant finding then please get in touch.
Expansion 2016 and beyond: As many of you have probably already heard, we are working hard on expanding the Academy to the floor below. This is looking more and more likely, although we are not quite there yet. We will be asking Sport England for funding via their inspired facility fund to help renovate the floor to provide 3 purpose built studios, 1 with a sprung floor to allow dance and 1 pupose built “soft” studio for martial arts and 1 area which will home Newquay ABA. Full time boxing ring, bags etc.
There will also be a social area and additional changing rooms.

This in turn will allow an expansion of the strength and conditioning floor to include astro turf sprint track, more space for squat racks and Olympic lifting, more space for weight lifting and additional pieces of equipment.

This money will help double to members of Koncept Academy. With cuts being made to Council run facilities and the likely hood of the multi million pound Newquay sports centre closing, we will be providing a much more sustainable and cheaper option. Again if you have any experience or anything that can help in our bid then please come forward.

Kate won her 7th MMA fight inside the 4th minute of the 1st round at Cage Warriors 72 by TKO against a strong opponent- Paulina Bonkowska from Poland.

Anna wins her first fight in Cardiff on Sunday the 14th of September, after training less than a year coach- Mark Rowlett was confident that Anna was ready to make her entrance to the boxing ring with a K1 fight. Her dedication to training is second to none, training 5 times per week and rarely missing a training session. Anna won the fight by unanimous decision.

We have just taken delivery of a new 15kg Exertrain Ladies Olympic bar.

We are very committed to getting females lifting weights. If you would like advice or 1-2-1 sessions to work on your lifting techniques see our instructors Idris Owen or Jade Parsons.
